JIMEI VILLAGE SCHOOL

At the foot of Mount Tianma, this extravagant architectural ensemble was also founded by Chen Jiageng, the wealthy Chinese overseas from Jimei. In 1913, he decided to transform his native village into a modern campus, providing young people with advanced facilities: nursery, primary, professional, scientific laboratories, large libraries, auditorium, stadium, swimming pool, hospital. Chen Jiageng adopted the Renaissance style of Chinese architecture for this vast campus, built on a peninsula. The blend, combining Western buildings and Chinese flags, makes it quite exceptional. The mausoleum of Chen Jiageng was erected at the tip of the peninsula on the island of Aoyuan (park of the legendary giant Turtle), the site of a former temple. Stunning view of Xiamen Bay. This luxurious ensemble, formed by a corridor lined with faïence bas-reliefs depicting the life of the benefactor, leads to its majestic tomb.
