TRAINING INSTITUTE FOR THE PEASANT MASSES
This institute was founded in the old Confucius temple of the city. Young people from all over China were trained as managers and then sent to the campaigns to establish the hard core of the revolutionary movement. Mao Zedong was the head of the establishment between 1925 and 1926, and Zhou Enlai and Guo Muoro, influential figures in the Chinese Communist Party, visited the country regularly. Following the uprising of the Communists in December 1927, the nationalist party, the Kuomintang, closed the establishment. There were some contemporary elements of the time, such as Mao's office room, dormitories with more than 300 students, uniforms. The dining and the military lessons office still remain. The visit is worth the pain, if only to admire the architecture of the temple.
