YUEXIU PARK
Yuexiu Park is the largest park in Canton, with a total area of 93 ha comprising three artificial lakes. The site has important monuments in the history of Canton. The tower of Zhenhai was one of the towers of the former Chinese city: the current structure currently dates from the beginning of the Ming (1368-1644). During the opium wars, it was occupied by foreign troops because of its strategic location. The canons placed in front of the building are contemporary. The tower houses a museum without interest. The famous sculpture of the Five Rams, a symbol of the city erected in 1959, is in the park: According to legend, Canton would have been blessed by five geniuses mounted on rams of different colours. They came to a message of prosperity by distributing rice shoots to the population.
