RICE TERRACES OF LONGJI
Located 1 916 m above sea level, these terraces are considered to be part of the most beautiful rice fields throughout the country. Grown in the th century under the Yuan dynasty, the Rizières rice fields were quickly occupied by the Zhuang and Yao minorities. Here the families live in the heart of the 66 km ² of rice fields and pass traditional wooden houses from generation to generation. The landscape changes according to the seasons. If you visit the site early in the spring, you will see the rice fields filled with water. The reflection of the sky on the stairs of the terraces gives you the impression of seeing massive silver coins. In the autumn, the rice fields transform themselves: The forests surrounding them are the parent of their ocre and yellow clothing… The landscape is splendid.
Once you arrive, take a good time. Provide good footwear and water (summer). The climb is not a rest, but the show is worth a detour. On your road to heaven, you will be alpagué by young Femmes or Yao women who will try to sell you jewelry or small souvenirs. Some travellers don't hesitate to take the place with young women in traditional costumes (with the terraces) for 40 RMB! Only caveat: won by mass tourism, the place lacks a little natural! Possibility of accommodation on-site: many guesthouses are scattered throughout the rice fields. Approximately 50 RMB at night. Spending the night in the rice fields can be nice! Only remember that you will have to carry your luggage up to top… Good courage!
