GŒTHE MUSEUM IN THE BEEF INN
Private museum located in Sessenheim, presenting a collection of photos, engravings and surprising objects
In 1770, Johan Wolfgang von Gœthe, a young student visiting Sessenheim, meets Frédérique Brion, one of the pastor's daughters. A tender romance blossomed between the two, forever linking their history with that of Sessenheim. Wilhelm Gillig founded the private Goethe Museum in 1890. The Sautter-Germain family took it over in 1953, preserving the memory of this amorous episode between the writer and the young girl. The collection includes photos, engravings and surprising objects.
