Upper Lascar Row, nicknamed "Cat Street", is an iconic street in Sheung Wan, once known for the smuggling traffic organized by passing sailors. Its nickname derives from the ancient practice of merchants letting their cats roam to chase away rodents that preyed on their wares. Today, it's overflowing with small stalls offering cheap knick-knacks, effigies of Mao, film posters, calligraphy sets, mahjong games, fans and more. Antique shops, restaurants and cafés mingle here too.
