TEMPLE PAK TAI
Atmospheric temple built in 1862, housing an imposing statue of its tutelary god, the almighty God of the North, Pak Tai
Just 100 meters from the Blue House, this temple is one of the most beautiful and ancient on the island. Dedicated to Pak Tai, the Taoist god of the sea and the heavens, it was built in 1862. In keeping with Chinese polytheistic tradition, other deities are also worshipped here, and prayers follow one another all day long. The architecture is impressive, with wood carvings and glazed tiles decorated with mythological motifs. It houses a 3-metre-high bronze statue of Pak Tai, worshipped as protection against epidemics and natural disasters.
