GARDEN HOUSE
Once the tallest building in Asia, it is one of the oldest stock exchange headquarters in the world
Easily identified by its round windows, the Jardine House is nicknamed "the house of a thousand holes". Its singular design is not just aesthetic: it was conceived to reduce wind pressure, a major advantage in the face of typhoons. The 52-storey building was the tallest in Asia when it was inaugurated in 1973. It housed the headquarters of Jardine Matheson, the import-export giant that played a key role in Hong Kong's integration into international trade. Although the skyline has evolved, this skyscraper remains a symbol of the district.
