HONG KONG PARK
A superb 10-hectare park in the heart of the buildings. Don't miss the aviary, turtle lake and Vantage Point.
Located in the heart of the Central and Admiralty business districts, Hong Kong Park is a haven of peace (and coolness) in the middle of the urban jungle. The park is appreciated by locals and visitors alike for the natural interlude it offers. This 8-hectare park, opened in 1991, harmoniously combines natural and modern elements, with landscaped gardens, contemporary sculptures and sports and recreational facilities. Among its main points of interest:
Aviary Edward Youde: one of the park's main attractions is this huge, impressive aviary housing over 80 species of exotic birds, in an environment recreating a tropical rainforest. From an aerial walkway, admire superb birds from Southeast Asia and Indonesia. A few minutes' walk will reveal brightly colored fire-red parrots, Moluccan cockatoos and other varieties from Borneo.
Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware: this museum is housed in one of Hong Kong's oldest colonial buildings, dating back to 1846. An excellent opportunity to discover China's rich tea culture.
Forsgate Conservatory: a tropical space where you can admire a wide variety of rare plants, such as orchids, carnivorous plants and many others, in a humid and exotic atmosphere.
Tai Chi Garden : an area specially designed for the practice of Tai Chi. It is designed with traditional Chinese pavilions and winding paths, making it a soothing place for a leisurely stroll or meditation session.
Vantage Point: a tower with a strange architecture that, after bravely braving its steps, allows you to enjoy a superb view of the park and the buildings, a striking contrast.
Turtle Lake : an artificial lake where dozens of turtles and koi carp splash about. And right next door, a waterfall!
Fountain Plaza: on the way back to Pacific Place, this artificial maze of fountains and mini waterfalls is great fun for children, who can crawl under the water.
Practical information. There are several entrances to the park. For travellers, the most convenient are at the Peak Tram terminal (Central side) and via the Pacific Place shopping center (Admiralty side). Access to the park and its main attractions is free, including the aviary and tea museum. There are toilets, water fountains and a number of cafés and restaurants.
