Dating back to 1873 and well known to the locals, the Sanva is ideally located in Rua da Felicidade. You'll have to climb a steep staircase to reach reception. Comfort, like the welcome, is very basic, but the decor and atmosphere are worth the trip (Wong Kar-Wai is said to have filmed a few scenes for his movie 2046 here). There are double rooms with balconies. Only one room has a private shower and air conditioning. So be warned: this is an address for real backpackers!
