FORTALEZA DO MONTE
Today, the garden of this fortress is the perfect place to take a stroll and enjoy the panoramic view over the city
Built between 1617 and 1626, the fortress covers an area of 10,000 m². To reach it, simply climb up from the ruins of São Paulo via the park. Originally intended to protect the city against invasions, notably by the Dutch, it also served as the governor's residence, army quarters, prison and meteorological observatory. Today, it houses the Macau Museum. The gardens are particularly pleasant, and once at the top, the 360-degree view of the city and its surroundings is superb.
