It was founded in 1418 by Rabten Kunzang, under the authority of Khedrup J, disciple of Tsongkhapa. The monastery is affiliated with no order, while the chapels are Sakyapa. The current monks belong to the Gelugpa order. This monastery, less imposing than the large Gelugpa monasteries, is one of the most beautiful. The atmosphere is gathered there and the performances in the Vairocana Hall are subtle and original. The frescoes are in newari style. On the 2nd floor, you can admire the chapel of Shalye Tse, the summit of the heavenly home, which houses all the mandalas of the cycle. Climb on the roof of the monastery and admire the perspective of the main street with the citadel as a backdrop.
