GYANTSE CITADEL
To demonstrate its power, the English army under the direction of Younghusband, entered Tibet in 1904 from Sikkim. Arriving in Gyantse, she destroyed the citadel of the th century by cannon and then went on Lhasa to force the Tibetan government to negotiate. The citadel itself has no greater interest, but it offers a beautiful view of the city and the monastery. The climb takes half an hour. A museum «against British imperialism» opened its doors in the middle of the fort: it recounts the British invasion of 1904… from a very Chinese point of view!
