The Samye hermitage, located at the top of a vallon in the north-east of the monastery, requires four hours of sustained walk and the passage of the Crête ridge. It is inseparable from Guru Rinpoche, who hid termas, texts to be revealed in the coming centuries. In 776 Rinpoche introduces 24 disciples and King Trisong Detsen to yoga yoga.
The caves and temple devoted to Guru Rinpoche are again inhabited by hermits, often from the eastern part of the country. Some have called for silence. From the stûpa, the caves are visited by the left.
