Nichts sichtbares kostbares sehen lassen!!!!
Nonetheless breakfast was ok and the bathrooms were clean, but the price they ask for is not ok with what you get.
Very good price quality ratio
Beds are super comfortable and you have plenty of options to chill and hang out with friends/other guests.
Breakfast was great too.
Would definitely stay here again!
Area first. There is so many homeless people, you feel unsafe, a guy told us that it was dangerous walking around at nightime and it smelled awfully around here. Only reason we stayed here was to get away with the bus next morning.
Room was a prison cell. No light in the bathroom, no water in the toilet or tap half the day, cold shower and all morning a chicken kept screaming sooo loudly. Terrible place
They treat you like a family
Host was lovely and it was a short walk to the mercado
Rooms basic
Nice atmosphere, people are very convenient, we were able to leave our car in their parking lot for our day's visit to San José.
More than affordable price, only traffic noise in the morning and cold shower! Be aware
The host meant well but was somewhat strange in his manner. On arrival I was a bit confused as he wasn't very welcoming, and wasn't much help when I asked whether he could give me any help in booking visits to nearby national parks (navigating the website to do this and book bus transport is quite tricky, so I was hoping that someone with local knowledge might be able to assist).
Later on in my stay he was more polite so I don't think he was being deliberately rude when i arrived, but it still came across like this.
It is very quiet, and there isn't much of a social atmosphere - so I would go somewhere else if you are looking to meet other travellers when you are away. The lights are completely switched off at 10pm.
I stayed in a private room with an ensuite. The room had a musty, unfresh atmosphere and there was a strong smell of drains from the bathroom (this put me off my food when I tried to eat in there one night). It felt very used and worn. The bed was, however, very comfortable and I had a good nights sleep every night.
It did feel very safe and the breakfast of pancakes and coffee was a highlight.
In terms of location, it is a 30-40 min walk to get to the centre of the city and main bus stations. This is navigable but everyday I had to walk 40 mins to and from from the centre/bus stations, so if you would prefer less walking then I'd suggest staying somewhere closer to the centre or on the western side of the city.
Staff/Service: Marc is the owner of the hostel. We found Marc to be very friendly and dedicated. Marc prepares a huge pancake for each guest every morning (see photos). The pancakes are delicious! I believe he has perfected this recipe over the years, not least in terms of presentation with a face design.
Facilities: The facilities were overall very clean; the cleaning staff did a thorough job. While there were some small worn-out corners here and there, as mentioned, the cleanliness was really good. The hostel is relatively small, and the walls separating the rooms are likely newly installed, making it somewhat noisy. The mattresses are a bit worn. The Wi-Fi connection throughout the hostel is very good without any issues.
Conclusion/Value for Money: The price of $32 for a night in a private double room plus pancake, including breakfast, is absolutely unbeatable. We have rarely seen such an excellent value for money.
