We enjoyed our large room (despite the fact that we were not able to find the advertised safe), swam in the pool after a walking city sightseeing tour and my partner trained at the almost fully equipped outdoor gym.
We booked the room with breakfast which was simple but tasty. I think you could also put everything that needs to be cooled down in the refrigerator that's on the 1st floor.
The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the main streets but still our room was very quiet which we very much enjoyed.
The reception and the food team were very really nice. It's a non-smoking property and secured parking behind a gate was a huge plus.
We can also recommend Cafe Rojo just opposite of the hotel for dinner for example.
The hotel is located centrally and is accessible to many of the tourist spots and transportation options.
hotel is clean, large, we'll kept.
Hotel has a character which is rare nowadays. Some hotels are more cookie cutter and apper like it was made in a factory. Santo Tomas on the other hand has beautiful hand carved bed heads, Our room had two tables, a sofa, two beds, tv, tall ceilings, large toilet and very spacious room.
Tomas who owns the place is very thoughtful and goes out of the way to make his guests feel at home.
The staff are also very responsive and have a great demeanor.
Staff speak good english and spanish.
Good breakfast options
Tomas went out of the way to change the shower heads in our room when he heard I had undergone a ankle surgery. And this shower head makes it more accessible for me. He even sent us a chair to help me be seated when making a shower. I must say all this made us very happy to have chosen his hotel
On the positive side, the pool area is pretty cute. Also it’s a great location to walk to many sites. The staff seems nice enough. The mattress was comfortable too.
Negatives: It’s location is also a negative. The staff advised us not to go out in the dark as it is unsafe (possibility of mugging). They even advised us against waiting outside the hotel for the Uber. The area around and the road on which it is located looks rough. We stayed for one night and our room had dirty bedsheets and pillow covers - an "economy" room does not mean cutting corners for cleanliness. The decor of the room and bathroom are very dated, which wouldn’t be a problem if maintained and cleaned properly. The pictures do not reflect the true condition of the/our room. Breakfast felt very minimal.
Conclusion: If you can afford a little bit more stay along the national museum area.
