Without a doubt the best place to buy most souvenirs such as canvas or leather bags, shoes or hammocks, and at much better prices than the so-called artisanal markets. One important detail is that the shopkeepers don't attract tourists, so it's far from the medina atmosphere, and that's good. Go to Jose Israel Fallas to get a machete, the essential tool that you will notice on any good campesino. From 8 US$ the instrument and 14 US$ the leather pouch.

Indeed, the best commercial San José square. Choose 100 times compared to the local markets, totally tourist, while Mercado Central is a lung of the life of the capital. Stalls everywhere, with heaps of souvenirs has to buy all sorts, but not only: gargottes eat on the go with all corners and unbeatable prices while being very good, typical stalls of all types, medicinal herbs for all to look after, reliigieuses figurines with sucker, various merchants of local food, Ticos are even more present than tourists, this place is just the place not to miss during a stay in the capital.
