One of the most beautiful plazas in San José with two statues, the most shaded and the best maintained.
The square is one of the most beautiful in San José, at least the most shaded and best maintained. It has two statues: one is a tribute to the battles fought by Central America against the adventurer William Walker, sculpted by a disciple of Rodin; the other represents the national hero, Juan Santamaría, who lost his life to offer victory to Walker's men. On the edge of the park are the Legislative Assembly, the National Center of Culture, which houses the National Gallery of Contemporary Art, and the National Library.

For some time, this square has sculptures in recycled objects (notably structures towers computers) illustrating the concern of sustainable development in Costa Rica. These sculptures, including one in the shape of bridge, were commissioned by the European Union. In addition, this park has many extremely practical benches, and there are also vending machines with gates, including just in front of the Parliament. You feel safe necessarily!
