PLAZA DE LA DEMOCRACIA
Square with huge stairs leading to the National Museum, with a famous statue, Don Pepe Figueres.
Since it was vegetated, the spacious Plaza de la Democracia has become a pleasant place, but Ticos prefer it to the Plaza de la Cultura. In 2018, this place was chosen for the transfer of power: the new president Carlos Alvarado Quesada wants to give back to this square the value it deserves. A true bastion and witness to the historical events that forged Costa Rica, the Plaza de la Democracia was inaugurated in 1989 as part of the celebration of the centennial of Costa Rican democracy.
