PLAZA DE LA DEMOCRACIA
Square with huge stairs leading to the National Museum, with a famous statue, Don Pepe Figueres.
Since it was planted, the spacious Plaza de la Democracia has become a pleasant spot, bordered by two prestigious museums. In 2018, the square was chosen as the venue for the transfer of power: the new president, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, wanted to restore the square to its rightful place. A veritable bastion and witness to the historic events that forged Costa Rica, the Plaza de la Democracia y de la Abolición del Ejército was inaugurated in 1989 as part of the centenary celebrations of Costa Rican democracy.
