A great charm for this hotel with a human dimension, calm and in harmony with nature, in a magnificent garden, where you cross lazy, monkeys and giant earth crabs… all this at the very edge of the lagoon, with trails to "lose" in nature. A breath of highly recommended nature. The hotel team is particularly nice and pleasant. The hotel was very nice. The Ara Macau restaurant is to be fully catered for, with a large class service, the meals are rich. You will be recommended especially for dolphinfish and fish soup, absolutely delicious. Many proposed activities: fishing, canopy, kayak, water cycling, wildlife observation and flora. Spa, gym, internet, table exhibition, free transfer. An establishment that is also very committed to the environment.

Fantastic two night stay at the Manatus.

Everything was perfect, they picked us up from our hotel in San Jose and the guide on the journey to the hotel was brilliant.

After the bus ride a boat trip to the hotel which took around an hour and a half.

Rooms spotlessly cleaned and the bathrooms superb - looked like they had been refurbished recently to a very high standard.

Lovely pool area and great seating areas over looking the water.

Staff were great, particularly the younger waiter. I think his name was Gerald. Nothing was too much trouble and he went out of his way to ensure everyone in our group was happy and had everything we needed.

If you are planning on visiting Tortugero this hotel is highly recommended

On a bien aimé.

We loved our stay here as part of our honeymoon. The transfers were seamless and the staff were so knowledgeable. Ricardo and Luis were brilliant guides and the waiting staff were very friendly. Our room was comfortable and really enjoyed the air con! Good location in terms of Tortuguero town and the national park. We enjoyed the night tour on the hotel grounds too.

Really lovely boutique hotel

My wife and I had a lovely 3 night stay here. The hotel is very comfortable, with accommodation in air conditioned and very clean bungalows. All three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are a-la-carte, and very good. The menu doesn’t change, so would get a bit boring after several days. But it is perfect for a stay of a few days, with a good choice. The restaurant staff were very friendly, even preparing some simpler food for my wife who had an upset stomach on one day (probably a food poisoning from a previous hotel).
Alcoholic drinks are not included, but the bar has a good selection of cocktails, wine and beer. All at reasonable prices - $6-7 for glass of wine, $8 for cocktails.
The two tours with a guide (included) were excellant. Each was 2-3 hours exploring by boat (no walking). The guide, Luis, and the boat driver, Ronnie, spotted many animals which we would never have noticed ourselves, and managed to manoeuvre the boat to give us a good view. We saw iguanas, other lizards, slothes, monkeys, caymen, many birds, bats. They were very enthusiastic, and clearly knew a lot about the animals in the park.
If you are not on a wildlife tour, it is easy to chill-out here. There are several comfortable places to sit and watch the view on the river, and a very nice swimming pool.
Tortuguero is an isolated place with access only by boat or air. We flew from San José in a small plane (12 seats) and landed at the very small airstrip on an adjacent piece of land. This is a fascinating and exciting way to arrive, though the more common coach + boat transfer would also be very interesting. We were met at the airstrip and transferred by boat to the hotel. And taken back to the airstrip at the end of our stay. We felt well looked after, which is important in such an isolated place.
Overall, a great place to explore the wilderness from a very comfortable base.
