CERRO TORTUGUERO
Cerro Tortuguero in the landscaped park with a great viewpoint ideal for a short water cab ride.
In order to climb to the top of Cerro Tortuguero, which is nothing else but the crater of an old inactive volcano, you will have to cross a park perfectly arranged with modern installations, on a little more than one kilometer. You can see spider monkeys, frogs (be careful, they are poisonous), toucans, sloths and iguanas. And although your eyes are wide open to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings, it is possible to pass within a few meters of these animals without paying attention. So even if it is not mandatory to go with a guide, it is interesting to be accompanied in order to learn more about the surrounding vegetation and fauna, so that you will not lose a crumb! The local guides are true enthusiasts and great connoisseurs, they will be delighted to share with you the many secrets that only a trained eye can spot in this nature bubbling with life. After climbing a few steps, you will be at the top to admire the wonderful view of the peninsula and the national park. You will be fully aware of the unique environment in which the small village of Tortuguero is located. Not to be missed.
Tip: If you want to go back to Tortuguero, take a boat trip to the boats with the Costa Rican flag and agree on a price of around 5,000 colones. Cab boats are more expensive and will charge you double.
