Finca transformed from an exploitation activity to an ecological tourism activity, with rooms with a breathtaking view.
Jorge, an ornithologist, transformed his finca in 2005 to develop an ecotourism activity. Members of the Dota community have created a quetzal preservation plan. The money from the tours is reinvested in the maintenance of the area. On the program: trekking in the 80 hectares of reserve, bird watching, sunrise on the Cerro de la Muerte... The large rooms offer a breathtaking view, and are furnished with natural materials. In the restaurant room, you can access a platform to observe the hummingbirds.

I was a bit confused as to why the bird fruit feeder blind was off-limits (I guess it's private, but can't they just kick me out when it's needed? I only saw people in there once on my two night stay... maybe they're trying to preemptively prevent drama from having to ask guests to step out?), but that's a pretty minor complaint.
This was one of my favorite hotels/lodges I've ever stayed at anywhere. And, while I didn't have to do this since I was staying there, I'd say the day pass is totally worth it if you aren't staying overnight. If I ever make it back to this part of CR I will absolutely stay here again!
