The wooden bungalows are quietly distributed in the garden and offer a view of the forest or the river Savegre. There are many possibilities for guided or non-guided strolls, bird watching (quetzales) through the beautiful virgin forest. You should not miss the visit of the National Park of Los Quetzales, which is a few kilometres away. Bikes can also be rented for a day excursion with lunch-box (USD 6). The lodge has a restaurant "El Quetzal" which offers an international and local map. But the chef's specialty remains trout. Freshly caught in the river that crosses the area, it's definitely the dish to test. Vegetarian menus are adaptable upon request. Finally a bar on the edge of the river makes it possible to spend a moment relaxing almost the feet in the water!

We stayed 2 nights at the lodge on our way between Turrialba and Chirripó. The lodge is about 6 km or so up the valley, one road in and out of the valley. The lodge’s gardens are nicely laid out and while we were there we saw quetzals nesting next to the lodge’s car park - a much more pleasurable experience than the 5:30am escorted trip to see quetzals competing with groups from all the other lodges. The semi-detached cabins are at the rear of the property up the hillside - a 100 or so metres from the lodge’s gate. Wheeling the cases up the hill wasn’t too bad with only a few steps to negotiate. Our room had a small safe, big enough for wallets, passports and smart phones but not big enough for a 12” screen laptop. Unfortunately, the rather remote nature of the lodge and the proximity of the rooms from the road lulled me into a false sense of security, such that I left my wireless earbuds out to charge in our room while we went to dinner. On our return, we found that housekeeping had been and the earbuds were gone. The hotel made it clear that they trusted their housekeeping staff and that it was my word against theirs. They suggested that I might have mislaid the earbuds. I should have known better not to leave the earbuds out but given the nature of the place it was an easy mistake to make.

Jardin magnifique, colibris et autres oiseaux partout. Cadre magnifique. Chambre basique, literie basique mais une bouilloire pour le lit. Températures fraîches, couvrez vous. Restaurant cher pour ce qui est proposé. Personnel charmant.
