De Golfito National Refuge with a large number of animals, mammals or birds with trails to observe them
Created in 1985, its real name is "Golfito National Wildlife Refuge". It was a good idea to create this reserve above Golfito since, from their 400 meters of altitude, the 1,310 hectares of primary tropical rainforest ensure that the city has an ever-renewed water potential and the safeguarding of more than 200 plant species, some of which were frankly threatened. A tectonic fault could be the cause of the hillside escarpment that isolates the Golfito site from the southwestern plains. Despite its relatively small size, the refuge is home to a large number of animals, mammals, reptiles, or birds, easily observable from the trails that start from La Torre. The famous jaguar and four species of monkeys can be seen here. The entrance to the Colibrí and Catarata trails is located at the airport facilities (take the road that passes behind the airport). Here you will find the new park facilities where you will receive all the necessary advice for a safe hike. The Hummingbird Trail will only take you about half an hour. The opportunity to see very rare animals. The second trail leads, after a strenuous walk, to the waterfall where you can have a drink and a swim. The chances of seeing animals are increased tenfold. One of the most beautiful places of Costa Rica, and beautiful discoveries in perspective.
