SENDERO EL TIGRE
Sendero del Tigre offers hikes and organizes many bird watching activities and exhibitions.
Many activities are possible around the village. You will be able to hike beautiful trails in the primary rainforest (Rio Claro, Corcovado, Bollita...), meet the gold diggers, watch birds (the area is known worldwide for birdwatching) and even discover the hidden ruins of pre-Columbian villages... The hikes to Sendero El Tigre start early in the morning as it takes between 6 and 8 hours of walking to make the loop. To access the Corcovado National Park trail, you must make reservations at the tourist office or go to the village's new Eco Cultural Lounge , a beautiful bamboo building whose architecture evokes the shape of a butterfly. Inaugurated in 2017, this eco-cultural center allows the local population to become naturalist guides, for example, instead of practicing hunting or gold mining, which have become illegal. Don't hesitate to take a tour inside, you will learn a lot about the history and the surrounding nature. The Sendero del Tigre offers a different kind of immersion from other hikes you might expect in the area: the fauna is less abundant but you are more captivated by the sounds, smells and colors of this primary forest. Beware, the terrain is sometimes slippery, covered by layers of wet leaves that sometimes hide mischievous snakes! Go in a small group and stay as quiet as possible, you may have some nice surprises...
