A colorful carnival is held every year in Puntarenas. Its lively streets gather thousands of visitors.
The Carnival of Puntarenas is internationally recognized, welcoming thousands of visitors every year. During 10 days, the festivities take on different colors; people gather to elect the Queen of Carnival, they dance to the sound of the different troupes that parade through the city, they enjoy the demonstrations of topes, comparsas (groups of dancers) and masquerades (giants with painted heads). Several sports competitions are also organized on the beach. All this takes place in a very friendly atmosphere!
