Lodge offering 4 bungalows with a terrace with a breathtaking view of Lake Nicaragua, the Maderas and Concepcion volcanoes

A Belgian family awaits you in a timeless setting. A huge domain, bungalows without fuss but comfortable, and a breathtaking view on the Nicaragua lake, the Maderas and Concepcion volcanoes. Small pools overlook the nature. On the verge of self-sufficiency, Adrien runs the farm with his cousin and local farmers. Everything that is consumed in the restaurant comes from the crops and livestock of Tierra Madre. The list of activities is long: fishing with bamboo harpoons, driving oxen ploughs, making chopsticks..

A bit isolated from the closest town and neighbours, you'll find a moment of relaxation at the lodge. The activities (hot springs, farm tour and waterfall) were amazing. At the Hot springs and the waterfall you won't find any other tourists and can enjoy the place with the people you're staying at the lodge with. Even being suspisious about the farm tour first, it was highly fascinating to learn more about the regenerative way of farming instead of the industrial way with all it's advantages. The food you'll get is home made, mostly self grown, healthy and tastes great. You probably will see some animals in- and outside the cabins, but there was no big spider.

Staying at Tierra Madre was without a doubt the highlight of our visit to Costa Rica. The landscape around the lodge is jaw-droppingly beautiful with stunning sunsets and views of Lake Nicaragua. Adrian was a great host and tailored our time there to our interests. He took us on a jungle tour where we saw monkeys and learnt about sustainable farming and the history of Costa Rica. We also visited a banana plantation and swam in a secluded river. Our rooms were rustic, but comfortable with great views. The gazebo with a hammock and loungers was a great reading spot.

The food was also delicious and wholesome. Made from the freshest ingredients, many of which were grown on site, every meal was a treat (and very filling!) If you're looking to go off the beaten path and get away from it all, you won't do better than Tierra Madre.
