Santa Elena Forest Reserve, with 12 km of trails, more welcoming than the one in Monteverde

The Santa Elena Forest Reserve is located in the Monteverde region, about 7 km north of the town of Santa Elena. It has 12 km of trails divided into 5 well-marked paths, from 2.6 km to 5 km. They crisscross this 310 ha park and take you to an observation tower about 14 m high where you can observe the Arenal, Tenorio, Miravalles, and Rincon de la Vieja volcanoes! Children and people with limited mobility will prefer the Mundo Joven circuit, while the more adventurous will take on the Caño Negro. The Youth Challenge Trail will take you to the top of an observation tower, 1,700 meters above sea level, to contemplate the majesty of the tropical forests. This reserve is more welcoming than Monteverde, perhaps because it is much less crowded. The forest is even more humid, and the animals seem bigger because they have more hair (farfetched, but it is an explanation of the guard!). Located in the Caribbean part of the country, at an average altitude of 1,600 m above sea level, this reserve is bathed by the northeast trade winds, forming a group of clouds present during most of the year. These climatic conditions and temperatures favor the development of an amazing biodiversity where the forest is constantly dressed in a lush green color. The profits of the reserve are dedicated to the development of the community.
