ST. PETER AND ST. PAUL'S CHURCH (CHIPROVACHKA)
Church, the largest in Szentendre, built by the Serbs, decorated with beautiful sculptures and bought by the Catholic Church.
Built by the Serbians fleeing Chiprovatz in 1708, it is the largest church in Szentendre and was originally dedicated to St. Nicholas. The church took its present form in 1791 and was dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. The graceful red sandstone sculptures are in the Louis XVI style. As the Orthodox community had drastically decreased at the beginning of the 20th century, the building was sold to the town hall, before being bought back by the Catholic Church.
