CZOBEL MUSEUM (CZOBEL MÚZEUM)
A museum in Szentendre dedicated to Béla Czobel, Hungary's most French painter.
Béla Czobel (1883-1976) is considered the most French of the Hungarian painters. This artist from Budapest joined the Nagybánya (Baia Mare) colony in 1902. A year later, in Paris, he met Matisse and Braque and experienced his Fauvist period. He exhibited at the Parisian Salon of Independents (1919-1925) and was part of the avant-garde movement of the Hungarian Eight, founded in Budapest. In 1940, he settled in Szentendre, where his wife was born.
