TOWER OF FIRE (TŰZTORONY)
The tower of fire or tower of the city (Tűztorony or Várostorony), renovated in 2013, offers a beautiful view of the old town. This high-tower, 600-year-old high tower is the city symbol. It was sent by trumpet watchers to monitor the possible beginnings of fires. The foundations, which date back to the árpádienne period (where Roman remains uncovered during excavations are exposed in the cellar), support a high-end Renaissance round gallery with late Renaissance style, topped with a baroque bulb of green copper finished by an arrow wearing a twin eagle. The passage at its base, the door of Fidelity (Előkapu), pays tribute to the vote of the citizens, in 1921, who chose to stay Hungarian while the Treaty of Trianon ceded the city to Austria.
