Fő Tér square is closed to the east (at No. 1) by the municipal council building. Built in 1497, it is the oldest administrative building in the city. During 1681, the diet met regularly.
What we see today is the result of major renovations made in 1896; only a carved wooden door was preserved from original construction. On the first floor, the archives of the city and 15 000 volumes, 5 000 documents of the Middle Ages and the registers date back to the year 1391.
