CAREER OF FERTŐRÁKOSI (FERTŐRÁKOSI KŐFEJTŐ ÉS BARLANGSZÍNHÁZ)

These ancient quarries, already exploited by the Romans, resemble an cave temple of ancient Egypt. Part of the sandstone blocks extracted were used for the construction of houses in Vienna, Austria. The cliffs, which are about metres tall, are infused with marine fossils dating back a few million years. The acoustics in these huge rooms are so fabulous that there is a lyric theatre that can accommodate up to 850 people. The careers of Fertőrákos became the most prized scene of the festival Sopron and form part of the world heritage of humanity with Lake Fertő.
