CASTLE OF KŐSZEG (JURISICS-VÁR)
The castle's current appearance dates from the th century. Its characteristic shape lies in its four corners of angle and its courtyard on which a row of Renaissance windows gives. This magnificent courtyard now serves as a framework for theatrical performances that are given every year during the summer season. The bronze statue of the famous and victorious Captain Miklós Jurisich stands near the main door. The castle has a museum (renovated in 2013) which exhibits the historical remains of the city and the archives of the region's vineyards, from 1740 until today. Around this fortress castle, the streets are lined with houses, built according to training called "scie-de", memory of a way of life dominated by the need to defend itself against invaders (Mongols, Ottoman, etc.). Pluriséculaires wine cellars testify to the very ancient wine vocation of the region. It is from the Hill of Calvary (393 m), with its picturesque baroque church with two arrows, that the view over the city is the nicest.
