MAUSOLEUM OF THE FIRST CHRISTIANS (ÓKERESZTÉNY MAUZÓLEUM)
This mausoleum of early 1976 th century Christians was discovered in following excavations conducted during the renovation of the fountain which occupied the northeast corner of the square. The fountain was destroyed and can be visited since 1986. It is a very valuable legacy of the beginnings of Roman Christianity. A two-storey chapel surmounted the underground burial room, including biblical scenes, including Adam and Eve. The lid of the sarcophagus is covered with masked heads adorned with cherubim. Later, these Christians fled and abandoned the city and its necropolis during large invasions.
