Prior to the floods of 1879, the large market for cereals was welcomed. A statue of the writer András Dugonics rises on the side of the boulevard. He holds a book, his work entitled Etelka, which is one of the first novels written in the Hungarian language. On this square is also the central building of the university where the poet Attila József was judged by his subversive poem, A Pure Heart, published in the local newspaper.
