The Bardo was a citadel composed of several buildings, including this mosque. It is located on one side of the palace, next to the commercial center. Built by the bey Hussein, it has similarities with the mosque El Jedid, also due to the founder of the Husseinite dynasty. Its minaret is slightly later. The forms and decorations of the great door are recent. All these mosques have undergone restorations more or less important after the Independence.
