TOURBET EL BEY
This beautiful royal mausoleum, the final resting place of the rulers of the Husseinite dynasty, is to this day the largest funerary monument in the city of Tunis. The building, constructed during the reign of Ali II Bey (1759-1782), is topped with domes, many of them covered with green, scale-shaped tiles. The facades are of ochre sandstone, decorated with pilasters. This is where the burial chambers are located, containing the tombs of the sovereigns and their wives, as well as those of certain ministers and servants. The mausoleum reopened in 2024.
