SALAMMBO TOPHET
Also known as the Tophet of Carthage, this is the oldest Punic site in Carthage. For 7 centuries, small urns containing the ashes of the first-born of the city's noble families were buried in this sanctuary, where they were sacrificed. Through this act, which is not certified by historians today, the Carthaginians hoped to have their wishes granted or thanked the divinities for those they had fulfilled. Fans of Alix's comic-book adventures will be able to relive Le Spectre de Carthage here. We regret the lack of information and maintenance on this site.
