German-Tunisian cooperation has made it possible to build this museum. It recounts the country's ancient history and the origins of the marble quarries and their exploitation. The visit follows a looping circuit through 4 rooms: Geology and Protohistory of the Chemtou Region; Chemtou Marble; Chemtou: the Simitthus Colony. The collection on display comes from excavations at Chemtou and nearby sites. Even though only 10% of Chemtou has been excavated, this museum gives an insight into the importance of marble in this region! Worth seeing.
