It was built by a abbasid governor. It was originally a military Fortin serving as protection for the besieged populations, and then a fortress with marabouts who taught the Koran there.

The minaret was added by Ziyadet Allah I to 821. The architecture is quite austere, with the exception of the various motifs and motifs of the minaret.
