From the name of its founder, a rich Turkish notable (1772). The legend, which accompanies this mosque, says that in 1772 an old woman seeing a light illuminating her house during the night ran to see Hadj Mustapha Hamza to tell him the news. The latter then decided to destroy the house, to relocate the old woman and to rebuild a mosque in the place of the rubble. Located in the heart of the medina, the Hadj Mustapha mosque was restored in the twentieth century, and it is now a fine example of Ottoman architecture.
