Mahdia's medina is one of Tunisia's most pleasant to stroll through. Its structure is organized into two east-west peripheries: one that begins at Skifa el Kahla and ends at Place de la Grande Mosquée. It groups together public spaces such as cafés, craftsmen's workshops (of which there are around a hundred today), the hammam and the mosque. The other residential area extends west from the Skifa to the edge of the marine cemetery. The medina is home to six mosques.

Les souks sont regroupés dans les deux rues parallèles qui vont de la Skifa à la Grande Mosquée. Hormis les boutiques touristiques, vous découvrirez toute la richesse de l’artisanat de Mahdia à travers les très nombreux bijoutiers et ateliers de tissage : bijoux d’or, d’argent et d’ambre ; tissus de coton, en soie et fils d’or, aux couleurs vives et variées
