Kairouan is not only famous for its mosque and its carpets: its makroudh are known all over Tunisia, with pasta filled with dates, almonds and walnuts soaked in honey. The best pastry shop in the region is called Segni. You will find there absolutely exquisite makroudh. The pastries are like works of art and it is good to have them after dinner. The greedy interior of the store is pastel green, a way to highlight the delicious makroudh but also baklawa, declined in all their forms.
