Dating back to the 14th century, the Fadhloun mosque is one of the island's most stunning. The monument is made up of three sub-assemblies: a prayer hall built in the middle of a fenced-in courtyard with a lime-covered floor; interior outbuildings comprising a main room dedicated to Koranic teaching and two smaller rooms, one for housing and the other for food supplies; and exterior outbuildings for ritual ablutions and a Koranic school. The complex also includes an underground grain mill and bakery!
