Founded in 1967, Anek Lines is a company whose shareholders were initially ordinary Cretans who wanted their island to be served frequently and safely with large vessels. In 1970, Kydon, the emblematic ship linking Piraeus and Chania for 20 years, made its first voyage. It was a tanker launched in 1953 and converted into a ferry in 1968, according to the custom of the time. At present the company has a fleet of 9 ships of Greek registry serving, among others, the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.
