VENETIAN BULB FORT
Historical fortress, beautiful panorama and pleasant walk, in Heraklion.
The fortress was originally called "Roca al Mare" and "Castello del Mollo". The Venetians had erected it before the construction of the new walls to protect the port from the heat of the sea and it was consolidated between 1523 and 1540, to counter the threats of Turkish attack in the time of Suleiman the Magnificent. A lion, a symbol of Venetian power, adorns the exterior of the rehabilitated building. Today, in the exhibition rooms, the history of the place is retraced, notably with the help of well-made explanatory films. Very beautiful panorama and pleasant walk.
