Villa known for its superb mosaic pavements, near the palace of Knossos.
Built a few hundred meters north of the site of the palace of Knossos, during the Roman occupation, this villa is mainly known for its superb mosaic pavements. Among them, the one representing the god Dionysus (second half of the 2nd century AD), discovered in 1935-1936 during the excavations conducted by the British archaeologist R. W. Hutchinson. It is a perfectly preserved mosaic. It was here that a splendid statue of Hadrian was discovered, which is now on display in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.
