The village of Thrapsano is the centre of ceramic art on Crete. Most of its inhabitants are craftsmen renowned for their skills handed down from father to son over time. During the Ottoman period, the village developed enormously thanks to the production of ceramic objects and especially jars. The local ceramists had adopted the practice of vedema: craftsmen travelled around the country not only to sell but also to make clay objects locally. A pleasant stroll through the steep little streets.
