Minoan city in Amnissos sheltering the villa of the frescos or villa of the lilies.

It is very likely that Amnissos was the port of Cnossos in the Minoan era. Archeologists found traces of an ancient city, including the villa of the frescoes or villa of lilies. The walls were once covered with white and red frescoes representing lily flowers, but also other plants: Iris, mint or papyrus. The villa that dates from about 1600 BC was destroyed by fire as shown by the charcoal remnants of a pillar. The fresco of the lilies discovered on this site is located at the museum of Heraklion.
